Shalini and Shane’s lavish, cultural wedding took place on September 4th, 2011 at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. Shalini’s makeup was done by MAC store artist Jayson Gerena. “Not only is he a great make up artist,” says Shalini, “He is a wonderful person, and I enjoyed very much working with him!”
Her “East meets West” wedding began with the groom entering the hotel with drums announcing his arrival like a true Prince of India. Shalini and Shane had a traditional Vedic Hindu Wedding Ceremony.
“The most important component of this type of ritualistic ceremony is the Saptapadi (Sanskrit for seven steps/feet). The bride and groom walk around the Holy Fire seven times, which is considered a witness to the vows made to one another.”
In striking contrast to the vibrant Hindu ceremony, the banquet hall was blanketed in classic a black and white motif, which added a nice balance to the colorful service. For their reception Shalini and Shane changed out of their intricately embroidered Indian attire into a traditional wedding gown and suit, and the American party we all know so well began! What we at 84 West Studios love about Shalini & Shane is how they honored both their Hindu and American heritage on their wedding day.
Shalini’s advice to brides:
“PLAN AHEAD! My fiance and I started the planning process a year in advance and up to the day before the wedding we were still making changes! But don’t stress and do your best to enjoy it because soon it will become just a memory and you want the memory to be a happy one as it was with my wedding.”
